Xavier McKinney, a former safety for the New York Giants, recently met with the media from the Green Bay Packers and gave a positive review of the team while also sharing his opinions about his time there. McKinney recently inked a four-year, $67 million contract.
“I get along well with everyone in the company, including the staff, general manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll Dabes, and co-owner Mr. John Mara. I couldn’t have predicted what would happen, but it turned out as I wasn’t really sure what they were going to do,” the 24-year-old McKinney added.
The previous second-round selection left his impact and is still very much ahead of his prime. During his tenure with the Giants, he racked up 279 tackles, 9 interceptions, 27 pass deflections, 6 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. He had his greatest and most productive season as a pro last year, and he made it very evident that he wanted to be compensated like one of the league’s top safetys.
But the Giants weren’t prepared to spend a fortune on McKinney, whose contract with the Packers pays an average of $16.75 million annually.
McKinney hasn’t held back when it comes to revealing his genuine thoughts regarding his final season with the Giants. Speaking of wanting to be appreciated, it was thought that McKinney felt betrayed when teammates Andrew Thomas and Dexter Lawrence were given contract extensions while he was not.
McKinney posted something on Friday that some could read as a jab at the Giants for not wanting him back at a high price.
