Why The 49ers’ DB Coach Believes Rookie Green Is A “Improvement”

SANTA CLARA: Daniel Bullocks, the defensive backs coach, thinks rookie cornerback Renardo Green of the 49ers has the makings of a dynamic player similar to Deommodore Lenoir.

Bullocks and the coaching staff have already put pressure on the second-round choice of the 2024 NFL Draft by giving the young corner the chance to play both inside and outside at the nickel position.

Physically, he can do it, so for [Green], it will be more of a mental challenge, Bullocks added. “Just comparing him to Demo, Demo Lenoir is a physical player, violent, skilled with the ball, able to run and cover, and he has the skill set to do it.” His skill set is extremely similar to Demo’s. We’re excited about this man.

Green is aware of the challenge at hand and has been consistently showing up to the facility before his position coach, which may be anywhere from 5:30 to 6 a.m. PT. Green also knows how much work it will require both on and off the field to be ready to play both positions.

Bullocks stated, “[Green] is playing outside right now and nickel for us.” Playing nickel is one of our defense’s more difficult positions since it requires you to comprehend run fits when you’re inside. All of the calls had to be listened to.
