“What is wrong with Chelsea?” – BBC pundit lays into Blues for this major flaw

Enzo Fernandez is in Garth Crooks’ BBC team of the week, but in reality, the midfielder’s selection was more of a tirade against Chelsea’s lack of discipline over the past few weeks, which has seen them receive two red cards in as many games.

His complete evaluation of Enzo is available here:

“With ten guys, you can’t win the game and score two goals for your team and stay off my team. Fernandez has played better, in my opinion, but he won’t score two more crucial goals. What is wrong with Chelsea’s situation? Reece James and Conor Gallagher, both donning the captain’s armband, have appeared in back-to-back weeks.

“Against Brighton, the Blues barely managed to escape with it and held on for the last eight minutes.” They almost seldom perform with such reckless abandon and win every point. You would have thought that at Newcastle, they would have learned their lesson.

He makes a valid point. We respect Conor so much and know he would never intentionally harm the team, so it’s difficult for us to hold him accountable. However, this was incredibly foolish, and sometimes you need an outside voice to clarify things.

Fortunately, as Crooks notes, everything about the scenario was ideal for Enzo to flourish in. In addition to scoring the goals, he had to really stand up and play defense and leadership, and he did all of them perfectly.

Let’s hope Chelsea players have many more team of the week appearances this season.
