Due to an injury in his left groin, Vaughn Grissom, the recently acquired second baseman, is not expected to play on Opening Day, according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora.

Enmanuel Valdez or the seasoned Pablo Reyes will probably be Cora’s go-to replacement for Grissom. “Obviously disappointed in a sense because we wanted Vaughn to get as many reps as possible and hopefully be the starting second baseman of the Boston Red Sox,” Cora stated.
Although Valdez’s defense isn’t the finest, Cora claims that training with former Red Sox instructor Carlos Febles during winter ball in the Dominican Republic made a difference.
“He’s throwing the ball well and moving well. He worked hard,” Cora remarked.
On December 30, the Red Sox traded their star player, Chris Sale, to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Grissom. CBO The 23-year-old, according to Craig Breslow, can stabilize a position that has been in flux since Dustin Pedroia left in 2017.
