Following their announcement on Saturday that their two-time MVP Stephen Curry would miss at least two games due to a sprained right ankle, the Warriors announced in a press release on Tuesday that the player is now cleared to resume on-court training.
Curry hurt his ankle last Thursday against the Chicago Bulls. As a result, he missed two games against the Spurs on Saturday and Monday and will not be able to play against the Mavericks on Wednesday. Golden State reports that he will likely practice with the team on Friday in Los Angeles and that he will undergo another evaluation thereafter.
Golden State will play the Lakers on Saturday following their game in Dallas on Wednesday. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Curry appears to be able to make a comeback for that match. For the Warriors, who are fighting for a play-in spot and now trail Los Angeles by one game for the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference, it would be fantastic news if that were the case.
Curry hasn’t been playing at his best lately; in his last ten games, he has made only 37.0% of his field goals, including 32.8% of threes. His season-long stats, however, are still impressive. Throughout 59 games, he has averaged 26.9 points, 4.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 32.8 minutes per game with a shooting line of.449/.407/.920.
The 15-year veteran, who turns 36 on Thursday, must participate in six more games in order to be qualified for the NBA’s All-Star team and other end-of-season honors. His next chance to play would be in the Bay Area on Monday when the Warriors face the Knicks to start a three-game home stand, if he is unable to make it back to Los Angeles on Saturday.
