During last year’s offseason, Latavius Murray agreed verbally to join the Bills on Day 3 of the draft, foregoing the team’s selection of a backup running back.
This arrangement landed Murray a rotational role in the 2023 season. However, despite this, he remains without a contract well into free agency.
Murray recently disclosed that he traveled to Colombia for stem cell treatments in hopes of continuing his NFL career for a 12th season. The 34-year-old played all 16 regular-season games and both playoff games during his time with the Bills, but the treatments could aid in preparing him for another season with Buffalo or another team.
Explaining the process, Murray stated that he received IV stem cells followed by injections in specific areas. This method is meant to help with overall health and treat targeted sore spots.
Throughout his career, Murray has consistently played between 13 and 16 games each season. In his stint with Buffalo, he had 70 carries for 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns, along with 119 receiving yards in the regular season and five catches in the playoffs. If he were to re-sign with the Bills, he would likely continue in a similar role.
Under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Buffalo has emphasized the ground game, with James Cook taking the lead. Ty Johnson has also been re-signed this offseason. Murray would be competing for playing time with Johnson and potentially rookies drafted by Buffalo.
Having played for several teams before the Bills, Murray is accustomed to changing teams. The post-draft free agency period could be when Murray attracts interest from teams, depending on his readiness for the 2024 season.
