Panthers utility player Tyrone Peachey has revealed that he will retire from the NRL after the 2024 season to prioritize his family. The 32-year-old, who has spent most of this season in reserve grade with only two bench appearances, believes it is the right time to conclude his 12-year career. Peachey has played 209 NRL games, scored 60 tries, and made three appearances for the NSW Blues. He shared the news on his podcast, citing personal struggles and a lack of commitment to football as reasons for his decision.
Despite making 15 first-grade appearances last season and being linked to a potential move to South Sydney, Peachey has only played two NRL games this year. He expressed the difficulty of admitting his decision to retire but acknowledged that it was the right move for his family. Peachey wants to settle down for his children, who need stability and a consistent group of friends.
Peachey has also been working on his post-football career, founding Nanima Care, an Indigenous transport company, and working with the Rugby League Players Association in player relations. He plans to focus more on his business and community work after retiring.
Tyrone Peachey, nephew of Panthers legend David Peachey, started his career with the Cronulla Sharks in 2012. He joined the Panthers in 2014, earning recognition as a center and back-rower. In his final year at Penrith, he helped the Blues win the State of Origin series in 2018 before moving to the Titans in 2019 and the Tigers in 2022. He returned to Penrith last year but narrowly missed a spot in their grand final-winning team.
