Boston Bruins winger Trent Frederic was honored as the recipient of the 2023-24 NESN Seventh Player Award prior to the team’s final regular-season game against the Ottawa Senators.
The 7th Player Award, voted on by fans, recognizes the Bruin who surpassed expectations during the season. In 81 regular-season games this year, Trent Frederic achieved career highs in goals (18), assists (22), and points (40). The 26-year-old forward, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 220 pounds, ranked among the top five in even-strength goals (4th with 16) and even-strength points (4th with 38).
There were several strong candidates for the 7th Player Award this season. Centers Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha admirably filled the void left by former captain Patrice Bergeron and longtime center David Krejci. Coyle reached a career-high 25 goals and 35 assists, while Zacha was one goal shy of his career-best 21 goals from the previous season and set a new high in assists with 38.
Forward Morgan Geekie also exceeded expectations in his debut season with the Bruins, achieving career highs in goals (17), assists (22), and points (39) in 75 games.
However, winger Danton Heinen epitomized the spirit of the 7th Player Award with his remarkable performance. Heinen initially joined the Bruins on an amateur tryout and later signed officially due to salary cap constraints.
Since then, Heinen has become a valuable two-way forward, contributing 17 goals and 19 assists in 73 games. He was also nominated by the PHWA Boston chapter for the Masterton Trophy, recognizing perseverance and dedication to hockey.
