Trent Brown, who will be 31 on Tuesday afternoon, agreed to a one-year deal with the Bengals. He understands that he will face some of the top pass rushers in the NFL and that he will be required to pass block frequently in Joe Burrow’s offense.
“I feel perfectly at ease doing that. I’m great at that,” Brown remarked. It seems to be the reason I’m here. And as you correctly point out, I am the only tackle in the league that can achieve that in today’s football game. I can play both sides because I have a special set of skills. And I give God and my parents the glory for that.”
Brown may have been channeling his inner Liam Neesen, but his argument makes sense. When facing Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and other elite pass rushers one-on-one, the Patriots trusted him to pass block.
That is probably going to be the case in Cincinnati, where the 6-8, 380-pound Brown will try to protect Burrow by teaming up with Ted Karras, Orlando Brown Jr., and the rest of an offensive line room loaded with veterans.
It’s Brown and Karras getting back together. The pair lived together in New England for two seasons.
The Bengals enquired about Brown during the free agency period, and Karras responded with optimism.
