Despite his public commitment to the team, behind-the-scenes tensions suggest a potential trade if a favorable offer arises. The futures of other veterans, such as James Harden and Paul George, remain uncertain. George has a player option for next season, and Harden is set to become an unrestricted free agent, potentially leaving the Clippers without both stars.
Free-Agent Market Options
Should the Clippers part ways with their veterans, they have several options in the free-agent market. Potential targets include De’Anthony Melton, Caleb Martin, and Derrick Jones Jr. The team also needs to improve in rebounding, finishing the regular season 19th in the league. Free agents like Isaiah Hartenstein and Nicolas Claxton, both strong rebounders, could provide the needed boost. Hartenstein averaged nearly 8 rebounds per game in the postseason, while Claxton averaged just under 10 rebounds per game this season.
Draft Challenges
Complicating matters, the Clippers lack a first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. They hold only one second-round pick, the 46th overall. Trading up in the draft could be an option if they seek to acquire more talent.
