Edgar Navarro, a right-hander, has been outright acquired by the White Sox. Scott Merkin of MLB.com was one of those who broke the news. Even though their contract with righty Erick Fedde is still pending, the team’s 40-man roster is currently at 39 players.
Navarro, who turned 26 in February, was chosen in July after only earning a spot on the roster a few months prior. In his short major league career, he has thrown 8 2/3 innings with an earned run average of 7.27.
While most Latin American amateurs sign at age 16, the righty was something of a late bloomer, having signed as an international amateur out of Venezuela at age 20. He has since pitched in the minor leagues, where he has received a lot of ground balls but has also had control problems. In every career stop, he has kept at least 45.5% of balls in play on the ground, but he has also walked 13% of minor leaguers he has faced.
He passed through waivers unclaimed because he was outrighted. As a bit of non-roster depth, he will continue to play for the White Sox in an effort to earn a spot in the major leagues again in 2024.
