The Golden State Warriors lost 119–112 at Chase Center on Monday as the undermanned New York Knicks outhustled, outmuscled, and outclassed them from the first tip. Five minutes into the first quarter, New York led 15-4 and scored eight points in a row, laying the stage for a dismal performance from the Warriors as they attempt to climb the Western Conference rankings.
Following the game, Steve Kerr remarked, “From the very beginning we were swimming upstream.”
Jalen Brunson was too fast, too strong, and too cunning for anyone to handle right away as he followed up consecutive 40-point performances with 34 points and seven assists on 12-of-25 shooting. Golden State had no answer for Brunson. After turning up some of his finest shooting of the season, Miles McBride harassed Stephen Curry on the one hand and scored a career-high 29 points and six threes on the other.
In his comeback to the Bay, Donte DiVincenzo scored eighteen points, and Josh Hart recorded another triple-double. The finest big man on the floor was Isaiah Hartenstein, who finished with 13 points, 10 boards, and 4 assists while controlling the paint defensively and making numerous tough floaters in pick-and-roll situations.
Curry finished with 27 points despite shooting 8 of 20 from the field and missing nine three-pointers. In 55 minutes of play, Green and Brandin Podziemski combined for two points, and Wiggins required nine shots to score seven points. The bench for Golden State, led by Chris Paul, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Klay Thompson, outscored the starting lineup 60–52.
There is no denying that Tom Thibodeau’s club performed better on both ends of the court. It was just something the Knicks wanted more than the Dubs did. Chris Paul, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Klay Thompson in the lead.
