The Kansas City Chiefs’ seven consecutive division crowns and two Super Bowl victories over the past ten years are no coincidence.
There are several reasons why that has occurred, but most would agree that their two future Hall of Famers—tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes—are the main culprits. However, coaching undoubtedly plays a significant part as well.
Two-time Super Bowl champion Andy Reid, who has guided two different teams to the big game in February, is the head coach of the Chiefs and one of the greatest coaches of his generation.
Trick play execution is one of Reid’s and Kansas City’s talents, which has helped the squad become unbeatable in recent years.
Combatting trick plays could be a crucial component of the Las Vegas Raiders’ effort to win on Christmas Day, as they will already be put to the test when they take on the reigning world champions.
There’s no correct way to be ready for trick plays when it comes to Reid, as Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce is aware of.
“I mean, he’s [Reid] got a million of them,” Pierce stated to reporters on Wednesday. “One after the other appears just when you believe you’ve seen them all. It’s excellent that they are creative and enjoy what they are doing.
“But certainly, you have to perform your duties at the end of the day, don’t you? So where are those trick plays coming from, most of the time? Red zone, fringe, close to the goal line.
Come on, we’re aware of it already, don’t we? That has so been discussed in meetings as we move through the remainder of the week. And that only requires everyone to pay attention.
Like, this kind of game doesn’t require running up the field, right? The previous time we faced them, we witnessed them getting down there and running the ball in. That is not what we want to occur.
“We witnessed the ring around the rosie deal they did last year. If they don’t run it in, here come the devices. Fun and games abound, nice.
But eventually, what’s the best approach to put an end to a trick play? Strike it in the oral cavity.”
On Christmas Day at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, the Silver and Black will play their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. On Monday, December 25, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST, don’t miss it.
