This week, four-time All-player and 16-year NBA veteran Shawn Marion attempted to argue that he was a superior defender. Warriors player Draymond Green did not hold back on Instagram. Green provided a succinct explanation on social media as to why Marion’s perspective was just incorrect.
“Sibling I covered back-to-back series for Jalen Brunson and Jaylen Brown,” wrote Green.
The statement alludes to the 2022 postseason, in which Green played a significant role and the Warriors won their fourth and most recent title during the “Splash Bros.” era. With a 53-29 record, the Warriors placed third in the Western Conference that year. The 2022 championship run is widely regarded as the most remarkable of them all, despite not having been won as decisively as some of the previous victories.
They comfortably defeated the undermanned Nuggets team in the opening round; without Jamal Murray, they had no hope of competing. They advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they faced the Memphis Grizzlies. The Warriors were able to win the series in six games despite Ja Morant putting up a strong fight.
Luka Docic and Jalen Brunson were two players that the Warriors had to slow down in the Conference Finals against the Mavericks. Even though the former Mavericks point guard scored 18.0 points per game on average throughout that series, Draymond was still having an influence and curtailing his previous hot streak. In terms of defense, Green was essential to the Warriors, and his late-game pressure on Brunson helped to put the Mavericks behind them.
