The New York Jets are officially out of the AFC Playoff picture after dropping six of their previous seven games.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem like New York’s ownership intends to sacrifice head coach Robert Saleh when the poor season ends. One day, after losing 30-0 to Miami on the road, Saleh spoke with media and addressed concerns regarding his job security.
Saleh stated on Monday, “I’m just coaching trying to beat Washington.” “Coaches can be divided into two categories: those who have already been fired and those who are set to be fired. We provide on-the-spot coaching. We instruct in order to win football games.”
In the home finale on December 24, the Jets (5-9) will take on the Washington Commanders (4-10) in an attempt to win for the sixth time this season. Regarding the potential for any coaching staff alterations before the Week 16 encounter, Saleh merely replied, “no.”
To Saleh’s defense, after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles four offensive snaps into the 2023 Jets season, the realistic expectations for the team were drastically altered. In the meantime, the offensive line has had difficulty keeping the quarterback safe and healthy. With 255.1 yards per game, this offense is the lowest in the NFL overall.
Under Saleh’s leadership, the Jets will undoubtedly conclude the season with a losing record for the third consecutive year. Since taking over in 2021, the head coach’s record is 16–32.
Saleh further asserted that he got along well with Woody Johnson, the team’s owner.
“Woody is excellent. Every day when I speak with him, we discuss our game plan,” Saleh stated on Monday.
