The output that left guard John Simpson has provided the Baltimore Ravens with thus far must be considered satisfactory.
He was released by the Las Vegas Raiders because they believed he was more of a journeyman than a starter, but now he’s playing every game for a team in first place.

Simpson hasn’t received as much attention as he should because of the Ravens’ tackle problems, which are currently the least pressing issue. But his recent play has raised some concerns, particularly with regard to penalties.
This season, Simpson has accumulated nine 86-yard penalties. As an offensive guard, that is the most yards and penalties any player in the NFL has received this season. The second-worst number of holding calls against a guard is four.
In the past few weeks, this problem has gotten worse. Since Week 11, Simpson has incurred five penalties. There have been four penalties totaling more than ten yards. He committed a terrible personal foul close to the goal line against the Jaguars. It was a play that nearly cost his team four points, but Lamar Jackson came through with a touchdown to save him.
He received a ten-yard penalty on Monday for using his hands improperly, which set the team back ten yards. The Ravens have made it through the problems, but in around two weeks, things will get much more serious in the games.
Since the Baltimore Ravens are a Super Bowl candidate, every advantage will be closely scrutinized. Teams will attack Simpson and try to draw penalties if they believe they can take ten yards from him.
In the next two weeks, John Simpson must improve his performance; otherwise, suspicions will only grow.
