In the wake of a challenging 2024 season, prominent college football analyst Paul Finebaum has called for the Georgia Bulldogs to part ways with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. Speaking on “680 The Fan” with Nick Cellini and Chris Dimino, Finebaum stated, “I frankly believe Georgia’s problem is at the offensive coordinator’s position… I think Kirby Smart, for as great as I believe he is… is being way too loyal to Mike Bobo, and I would get rid of Bobo today.”
The Bulldogs concluded their season with an 11-3 record, securing the SEC Championship but falling short in the College Football Playoff. A significant point of contention has been the team’s offensive struggles, particularly highlighted during their 10-3 loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. In that game, Georgia’s offense managed only 296 total yards and converted a mere 2 of 12 third-down attempts.
Fans have echoed Finebaum’s sentiments, expressing dissatisfaction with Bobo’s play-calling and the overall performance of the offense. The lackluster showing against Notre Dame intensified calls for head coach Kirby Smart to reevaluate Bobo’s position.
Bobo, a former Georgia quarterback and long-time assistant coach, returned to the Bulldogs’ staff as offensive coordinator following the departure of Todd Monken to the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens in 2023.
Despite the team’s success in clinching the SEC title and earning a playoff berth, the offensive inconsistencies have been a focal point of criticism. Finebaum’s remarks underscore a broader concern that loyalty may be hindering the program’s potential growth. He emphasized, “I think you could walk down Peachtree Street and get a better offensive coordinator than Bobo.”
