Penrith Panthers star centre Taylan May has been stood down by the NRL following accusations of domestic violence against his wife.
The Panthers confirmed in a statement on Thursday that May has been placed under the competition’s no-fault stand-down policy. The club pledged to support all parties involved and declined to comment further.
Reports indicate that the Panthers are considering terminating May’s contract. May, who recently extended his contract with the team until 2026, is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday, May 28, to address the allegations.
The incident allegedly took place on Monday, April 8, 2024, when May reportedly assaulted a woman known to him during an argument at a Werrington home, punching her in the face and leg.
Additionally, the NRL has also applied its no-fault stand-down policy to Manly Sea Eagles player Brandon Wakeham, who has been charged with drug supply and participating in a criminal group.
