The Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs are set to face off in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Following the Boston Bruins’ 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 5-2 defeat against the Florida Panthers, the Panthers secured the Atlantic Division title.
Consequently, they will face their in-state rivals and top Wild Card team, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in the opening round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Meanwhile, the Bruins and Maple Leafs will renew their playoff rivalry for the 17th time.
During the regular season, the Bruins dominated their longtime Original 6 rivals, winning all four matchups against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Notably, the Bruins secured victories with scores of 3-2 (shootout) and 4-3 (overtime) in Toronto, followed by convincing 4-1 wins both in Toronto and Boston.
Although the Bruins and Maple Leafs have split their 16 playoff series, the Bruins hold the upper hand recently, having won the last six playoff series between the teams.
Notably, their last three playoff encounters in 2013, 2018, and 2019 were intense battles, with the Bruins emerging victorious each time, including a historic comeback in Game 7 of the 2013 series.
As they prepare to renew their rivalry in the playoffs, both teams are eager to make their mark and advance in pursuit of the Stanley Cup.
