After 268 games, Stephen Curry’s remarkable NBA record of consecutive games with a made 3-pointer came to an end on Sunday night as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 118-114.
Curry shot poorly, making just two of his twelve attempts from outside the arc and missing all eight of his efforts overall, which translated into seven points for the club. This incredible run of games began on December 1, 2018, during a matchup with the Detroit Pistons.
In his most recent game, Curry—who now owns the NBA record for the most career 3-pointers made—reached the milestone of 3,500 3-pointers. November 8, 2018, was his last regular season game without a three-point shot against Milwaukee, where he didn’t make any in four attempts. Curry also has the second-longest streak in the NBA at 157 games.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr stressed the need of working as a team and not depending just on Curry to win. While acknowledging Curry’s poor performance, he emphasized the importance of collaboration and how various players can each contribute in different ways. While Curry has played a significant role in several of their victories, Kerr made the point that other team players need to provide greater assistance.
The Warriors’ coach, Steve Kerr, stated, “We can’t rely on Steph to bail us out on every single night.” “It was a difficult evening for him, but that’s the essence of a team, right? Guys standing up every night, each one covering for the other. He’s carried us far enough this year, so that’s a very encouraging indication. We must assist him further.
Curry’s inability to make three-pointers was on display during Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals versus Boston, as he missed all nine of his tries. This was an uncommon event, though, as he had previously set an NBA record by making at least one three-pointer in 132 straight postseason games.
