Following Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs was not having a good day, and he made it clear to everyone.
Late in the game, with his Chiefs down three points, Mahomes attempted a downfield pass to Travis Kelce, who then completed the pass backwards to Kadarius Toney for what would have been the game-winning touchdown. The play was nullified by the penalty because Toney was offside. This emphasizes what would have been. After the fact, Mahomes seemed enraged, criticizing the officials in the closing seconds of the game, bringing up the call at his postgame press conference, and even bringing it up to Bills quarterback Josh Allen as they shook hands.
Allen stated that Mahomes called him to apologize, but he doesn’t appear very concerned by his teammate’s remarks despite the unpleasant exchange.
Allen told reporters on Wednesday, “Yeah, he reached out to me and I was just like, it’s football.” It’s an emotional game.
“He’s an ultimate competitor, even though I didn’t think he meant anything by it and the cameras only kind of captured the last few seconds of our conversation. He is who he is because he wants to win.”
In addition, Mahomes has issued a public apology for the event, expressing regret for his general remarks made against the authorities as well as for his particular exchange with Allen.
It’s obvious that you never want to respond in that manner, as Mahomes stated earlier this week. “Man, I give a damn. I adore both my teammates and this game. In order to succeed, I want to go out there and risk everything. I definitely regret acting that way, but I can’t do that, I can’t be that way about officials, or basically anybody in life.
“I was really sorry about how I treated Josh after the game. He was not involved in it at all.”
The win in the playoffs helped the Bills go to 7-6 and possibly salvage their season, despite the fact that it was somewhat controversialKansas City.
