Speaking at the Winter Meetings on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Brewers provided an injury update on young left-hander Aaron Ashby, who the team says is a part of their plans for 2024. The 25-year-old didn’t pitch at all in the majors last season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He made his debut in 2021 and then started 19 games for the Brewers at 22. He signed a contract extension that will keep him in Milwaukee through 2027. The deal also has two club options attached as the Brewers saw enough talent that they wanted to lock him potentially beyond his rookie service window.
Does that imply that he believes Ashby will be ready for action come January 1st, or January 1st, at the latest?
Arnold remarked, “It’s hard to say.” When dealing with these kinds of things, exercise caution. He will undoubtedly be included in our group when he is ready.
Regaining Ashby’s health and playing a bigger role would help allay concerns regarding the Crew’s rotation. After non-tendring Brandon Woodruff due to injury, the team lost him for the entire season. Meanwhile, there are persistent rumors that the team may trade ace Corbin Burnes.
Wade Miley, a seasoned player, was signed back this week, so that should offer some rotation stability.
possibly past his first-year service period.
According to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvey, who spoke with general manager Matt Arnold:
“He feels fantastic. Arnold remarked, “He’s returning, throwing, playing catch, working out.” “Hopefully next year, I believe he’s on pace to be a part of our rotation. That is what is anticipated. This guy is undoubtedly on the right track and is giving it his all in an effort to return.”
