Lamar Jackson: “We have a bunch of guys who got things to prove”. But who are they?

 

Quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens doesn’t want to hear that his team won’t be given special treatment when they go into the playoffs.

Jackson feels more at ease bragging about being the “underdog” despite having been the underdog the entire season, even if that only changed for the second game versus the Dolphins, where the oddsmakers chose the Flock.

Lamar is the team’s greatest asset, and he made it quite clear on Sunday when he said of the current Ravens, “We have a bunch of guys who got things to prove.”

Talk about these guys’ underdog mentality, their merciless and unwavering perseverance, and the fight they displayed from the start of the season in early September to the December finale, which helped them secure the AFC’s top seed and a well-earned bye week.

“I believe we got a bunch of guys who’s been doubted. A bunch of guys who got things to prove on our team on both sides of the ball, so I believe in time we’re the underdogs, we going to always rise to the occasion, but we got to stay locked in to do that.”

Jackson wasn’t the front-runner to win the MVP award until roughly two weeks ago, despite dominating the league throughout the season. He had to overcome 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and then destroy the Miami Dolphins a week later to finally secure the right to lead the race by a significant margin.

To be honest, Jackson’s remarks were quite logical. Not only is Lamar playing with a group of misfits and veterans who no one wanted earlier in the year, but he was also treated disrespectfully by analysts and bettors.

Despite his recent long-term injury, Odell Beckham Jr. was given a shot by the Ravens. After Jadeveon Clowney was cut by the Browns last season, Baltimore offered him a starting position on their defense. Some of the other veterans signed by the Flock who are doing well and consistently proving people wrong are Kyle Van Noy, Melvin Gordon, Ronald Darby, and others.

According to William C. Rhoden of Andscape, Lamar told the media on Sunday, “We’ve been an underdog all season, even in the offseason.” “We’d like to keep it that way and just keep that on our mindset [so] we don’t fall into the narrative of things changing.”
