Lamar Jackson Finds No Joy in Nick Wright’s Top NFL Quarterbacks List
In a lively twist to the never-ending debates on the elite quarterbacks of the NFL, Lamar Jackson expressed his displeasure with a list curated by NFL analyst Nick Wright, which notably excluded the Baltimore Ravens’ star.
Wright, known for his sharp takes and allegiance to the Kansas City Chiefs, ranked Patrick Mahomes at the helm of his quarterback hierarchy – a choice that, fandom aside, few could contest given Mahomes’ exceptional talent.
Wright’s list continued with notable mentions of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow, acclaimed for transforming their teams into formidable competitors, followed by NFL Rookie of the Year, C.J. Stroud, and rounded off with Matthew Stafford. Wright even hinted at a potential ascension for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft top pick Caleb Williams, poised to join the Bears, as a contender for Stafford’s spot.
Nonetheless, the conspicuous absence of Lamar Jackson, the reigning NFL MVP and a recipient of the prestigious award twice – equaling Patrick Mahomes – sparked controversy. Jackson stands among the illustrious circle of 11 players who have clinched the MVP title more than once, sharing the spotlight with greats like Patrick Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers as one of the three active players to achieve this feat.
Jackson’s initial reactions were dismissive, marked by a quip about not knowing Wright, followed by a more personal critique of Wright’s appearance. His response underscored his dissatisfaction with the omission, especially given his commendable track record.
The question then arises, does Wright’s justification for excluding Jackson hold water? Wright argues that despite Jackson’s impressive regular-season performances, his playoff outcomes have been underwhelming, with no Super Bowl appearances to his name.
However, this rationale seems inconsistent when considering the inclusion of C.J. Stroud, especially given the Texans’ exit in the Divisional Round to Jackson’s Ravens.
Furthermore, the anticipation surrounding Caleb Williams, who has yet to make his NFL debut, raises eyebrows.
Given these points, Lamar Jackson’s frustration appears justified. His omission from Wright’s list seems unwarranted, overlooking his significant contributions and achievements in the NFL. However, the ultimate rebuttal to his critics, as many would agree, would be to secure the Lombardi Trophy for Baltimore, addressing any remaining doubts about his elite status amongst NFL quarterbacks.
