On the gridiron, Kai Nacua is still having an impact, just as he did at BYU.This past weekend, the UFL’s Michigan Panthers saw dominance from the former Cougars safety, who is also the older brother of NFL great Puka Nacua.
He recorded a team-high 11 tackles with two stops for loss and a sack in a victory.
The highlight of Nacua’s day came when he sacks former Alabama quarterback and two-time national champion A.J. McCarron in the first quarter. Nacua’s pressure on a skillfully executed safety blitz caused McCarron to give up.
The United Football competition (UFL) made its debut this past weekend after the XFL and United States Football League merged to form a new competition.
Eight teams make up the UFL; all of them were participants in one of the two leagues before the merger. Nacua was a member of the USFL Panthers team the previous season, recording 31 tackles over six games to earn a return invitation to the UFL.
Samson, a former Utah and BYU receiver who was also a Nacua, was a member of the team during the preseason but was later cut loose.
As previously reported by the Deseret News, Tei, the youngest Nacua, decided to continue his family’s illustrious tradition by enrolling at BYU in December of last year.
During his four seasons as a Cougar, Kai Nacua recorded 14 interceptions and two touchdowns in 38 games. Prior to joining Michigan, he played for six different teams as an undrafted free agent in the NFL, the most recent of which was the New York Jets in 2022.
