Losing Marner in free agency is not a terrible thing for Maple Leaf.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are constantly involved in interesting stories, but this summer they will receive much more coverage in the media than usual. They enjoyed another successful regular season, but the Boston Bruins eliminated them in the opening round. Many think a significant trade will occur this summer as a result of this exit. Mitch Marner, who only scored one goal and two points in seven postseason games against the Bruins, is the player who is being discussed the most when it comes to trades. The extremely talented winger hasn’t lived up to his $10.9 million salary cap mark and appears to find it difficult to improve or even maintain his level of play in the postseason.
The Maple Leafs may not have an option in the situation, even though Marner appears amenable to moving. There is a no-movement clause in the 27-year-old’s contract, and rumors suggest that he is not now willing to waive it. He is in complete control and has the option to walk away from Toronto at the end of the 2024–25 season without receiving anything in return. Massive Cap Space Would Be Freed Up by Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs will be relieved of the significant cap space that Marner has occupied since his contract began for the 2019–20 campaign by letting him depart.
