The Boston Celtics are currently the best team in the NBA after adding Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday during the offseason. Joe Mazzulla, the head coach, explains why his club has the greatest record and why other teams in the league should pay attention.
The Celtics’ 54-14 record has put them atop the NBA at the moment. With that in mind, they easily defeated the Detroit Pistons 119-94. The Celtics made 22 of their 49 attempts from beyond the arc, translating to an effective 44 percent success rate. Jaylen Brown led the way with 31 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each contributed 23 and 22 points to help seal the victory for Boston.
Conversely, the Pistons relied on Jaden Ivey to provide them with offensive production. The second-year guard finished with a line of 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists. In Detroit’s 56th loss of the year, James Wiseman added 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists off the bench.
Mazzulla addressed the media following the game and discussed what makes this Boston club unique. In a post that Jack Simone published on X:
The Celtics have a strong team this year that includes All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown along with seasoned players Al Horford and Holiday. Young players like Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard are also used in the lineup to maintain the team’s energy.
All eyes will be on Boston to see if they can up to the challenge with less than a month until the playoffs begin. Regardless, Mazzulla’s disclosure is sufficient for these Celtics to defeat other title contenders this year.
