The big elephant in the room this season for the Golden State Warriors is Klay Thompson’s current contract. Thompson is currently making $43 million and is in the final year of his contract, and both sides are at an impasse for next year.
On one end, Klay Thompson hasn’t quite produced at the same level he had prior to injury. On the other end, Thompson also helped provide four NBA Championships to the Warriors and deserves to get paid. If the Warriors do the latter option though, they may handicap themselves for for the future.
Patrick Beverley believes the Warriors should just pay Klay Thompson, regardless of what the situation is. On the newest episode of the Pat Bev Pod, Beverley gave a very impassioned case for the Warriors needing to pay Klay Thompson.
What Beverley wants the Warriors to do is to look more at the human side instead of the business side. Look at the man who helped make the franchise what it is today.
“It wasn’t a splash brother, it was splash brothers,” Beverley said. “I understand the business part of it, but sprinkle just a little human part in it. You own business. Workers working his or her ass off, and the time they’re there, they’re a big part of your business success. You get a ton of money, you take care of your person or do you let your person walk?”
It’s a very tough situation for the Golden State Warriors. At the end of the day, the franchise needs to do whatever it can to keep Steph Curry happy, and paying Klay Thompson is probably going to do that.
