Due to his probable appearance against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Melvin Ingram’s pass-rushing ability will likely be relied upon by the Miami Dolphins for a second straight week.
After signing with the Dolphins two weeks ago, the 12-year veteran joined the practice squad. Last week, Ingram made his debut of the season in Miami’s 22-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The three-time Pro Bowl pick entered the game as a situational pass rusher, spelling Andrew Van Ginkel, Bradley Chubb, and Emmanuel Ogbah, who was out due to a hamstring injury the previous week. He finished the game with two tackles.
During his time with the Los Angeles and San Diego Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Dolphins, where he played last season, Ingram gained recognition as a shrewd veteran pass rusher. He has started 106 games, contributed 397 tackles, 57 sacks, three interceptions, forced 15 fumbles, and recovered three.
A POSITIVE SIGN
As a good sign that all of Miami’s offensive linemen on the 53-man roster, receiver Robbie Chosen, who left the NFL’s concussion protocol on Friday, and cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey (knee) and Xavien Howard (hip), who are both nursing injuries, might play, Ingram was the only Dolphins player promoted from the practice squad for this Sunday’s game.
Prior to the Ravens game, cornerback Ethan Bonner had been brought up from the practice squad for the first two games, but that run did not continue. He may only be activated off the practice squad for one more game prior to the postseason, which means he will be eligible for the Miami game against the Buffalo Bills the following week.
There was a possibility Miami may start Anthony Schwartz or Braylon Sanders off the practice squad for the Ravens game because Jaylen Waddle was out due to a high ankle injury, but it didn’t work out.
Furthermore, there’s no reason to believe that the promotion of offensive lineman Matt Skura, Chasen Hines, or Ryan Hayes indicates that Lester Cotton (hip), Austin Jackson (oblique injury), or Liam Eichenberg (calf/ankle) won’t be able to play on Sunday.
