In the NCAA Tournament, Colorado State will now play Texas on Thursday.
The Rams won their First Four game 67-42 thanks to a combination of effective offense and impenetrable defense, holding Virginia to just 14 points in the first half. This victory made them one of the 64 honored programs with a chance to compete for a national championship.
Colorado State had an appearance that brought back memories of their dominant 13-1 start to the season. After eventually leveling off, going 11-9 in their final 20 games, the Rams regained their dominant early-season form against an offensively hopeless Virginia squad.
Since the 2019 national championship game, Virginia has not triumphed in an NCAA Tournament match following this defeat.
The Rams had a 55.3% field goal percentage while Virginia had a pitiful 25%. The Cavaliers were outrebounded 43–24, a terrible effort on the glass, and they had any offensive or defensive responses for Colorado State.
Colorado State hasn’t triumphed in the NCAA Tournament since 2013, the year they defeated Missouri 84-72 to go to the second round, where they were defeated by Louisville, the top-seeded team.
Now, Colorado State’s entire attention is on Thursday’s game against the Texas Longhorns, who are ranked seventh. In their most recent game, Texas lost 78-74 to Kansas State in the Big 12 Tournament on March 13.
Thursday’s Colorado State vs. Texas game is scheduled to begin at 5:50 p.m. ET on TNT.
