GOOD NEWS: VICTOR WEMBANYAMA, BRANDON MILLER NAMED ROOKIES OF THE MONTH

The NBA announced (via Twitter) that Brandon Miller of the Hornets and big man Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs were the February Rookies of the Month. Both players have now won the monthly rookie award two times in a row.

In 12 games last month (28.9 minutes per game), Wembanyama, the winner of the West, averaged 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on.474/.413/.831 shooting. Averaging 2.0 thefts and 3.9 blocks per game in those appearances, the No. 1 overall pick also put up impressive defensive numbers that increased his season-long averages to 1.3 steals and a league-high 3.4 blocks per game.

In 13 games played in February, Miller, the winner of the East, averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.8 steals on a.448/.374,.882 shooting percentage (34.5 minutes). The second overall pick was the former guard/forward from Alabama.

 

The NBA (Twitter link) reports that the other finalists in the West were Keyonte George of Utah, Chet Holmgren of Oklahoma City, and Amen Thompson of Houston; the nominees in the East were Gradey Dick of Toronto, Jaime Jaquez of Miami, and Ausar Thompson of Detroit, who is Amen’s identical twin brother.
