For the entire season, Lamar Jackson has been essential to the Baltimore Ravens. He’s become a franchise quarterback thanks to his ability to run and pass, and with the Ravens sitting atop the AFC at 11-3, he may be having his greatest season to date.
After taking over Todd Monken’s offense for the first time, Jackson has reached new heights and established himself as one of the NFL’s hardest quarterbacks to cover.
Jackson is ranked as the top “dual-threat” quarterback in the NFL by ESPN.
This season, Jackson has gained 741 running yards and five touchdowns. Additionally, 372 of them—at a 5.8 per attempt clip—came on planned carries, according to ESPN. “He’s a sudden mover with elite body control and the straight-line juice to produce on the ground.”
Additionally, Jackson’s off-platform passing was lauded by ESPN, which gave him a small advantage over quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I nearly picked Mahomes here — he can throw from any platform and make highlight-reel plays — but it’s Jackson this season,” writes ESPN. “His second-reaction skills to extend plays and create outside of structure really pop.”
In the end, Jackson might be worthy of his second NFL MVP title if he leads the club with the best record in the league and is the best quarterback in the league in two distinct abilities when compared to everyone else in the league.
On Monday night, Jackson and the Ravens will play the San Francisco 49ers. Christmas Day kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
