DeMar DeRozan, a winger for the Chicago Bulls, personifies the adage “A tiger cannot change his stripes.” Deebo is still the league’s best midranger and is as deadly inside the arc as any player, despite shooting more from beyond the arc than he has in the previous seven years. DeMar is ranked 50th in Bleacher Report’s early-season player rankings for his efforts.
consistent as always from the midrange
Having played in the league for fifteen years, DeMar’s consistency from the midrange has not changed. DeRozan is now shooting 37% of his shots from beyond the three-point arc due to his increased range.
But the former Trojan from USC is aware that his specialty is attacking the basket. One of the league’s most effective players inside the arc, DeRozan never fails to deceive opponents with his deft footwork.
“The individual who appears to be responsible for preserving the mid-range game in the modern NBA is continuing to do so in 2023–24—albeit at a slightly reduced volume as he opts for longer jumpers and fewer basket attacks,” Adam Fromal wrote.
“DeMar DeRozan continues to shoot 21.4 percent of his shots from 10 to 16 feet and 28.9 percent from even deeper two-point range. He is making the most of these opportunities, connecting at 39.7 and 37.0 percent clips, respectively. He’ll get the Chicago Bulls off the bench and get closer to matching last year’s scoring average of 24.5 points per game if those figures return to his career averages of 44.7 and 40.2.
His future is still uncertain.
However, Deebo’s future in the Windy City is still unknown. The Bulls are currently considering their options as they attempt to trade All-Star wingman Zach LaVine and wait to see what the roster looks like in 2022. LaVine is currently in the final year of a three-year contract that he signed.
The Bulls are at risk of losing DeRozan for nothing if they can’t reach a contract extension before the 2021–2022 season starts, but it’s unclear what the team intends to do with him.
DeRozan has led the Bulls both on and off the court and has been nothing but professional in Chicago, regardless of what happens with the team. At the moment, his averages per game are 21.5 points and 4.9 assists.
