GOOD NEWS: Dak Prescott is expected to become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, has played a major role in the team’s success, making them one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

Prescott has completed 201 of 290 passes for 2,444 yards and 25 touchdowns in total over his last eight games, with just two interceptions. During that run, Dallas is 7-1, and Prescott has emerged as a leading MVP contender.

The more likely he is to win NFL MVP, the more expensive his next deal will be. After 2023, Prescott will have one year left on his contract, but in addition to his outstanding play, he will have a lot of negotiating power.

Prescott’s 2024 Cap Number is Nearly $60M

Because Prescott was franchise-tagged twice before, his tag number in 2025 would require a 44 percent increase from the cap number in the final year of his deal. This practically means he can’t get tagged again, so he’s guaranteed to become a free agent in 2025. It’s the closest thing to having a no-tag clause.

On top of that, due to multiple contract restructures, Prescott’s cap number for next year is a whopping $59.455 million. The easiest way for Dallas to lower it is by doing an extension. So the Cowboys need to redo the deal far more than Prescott does.

In 2021, Prescott inked a four-year, $160 million contract, making him the second-highest paid quarterback. Due to five resets in the quarterback market this past offseason, he is currently tied for tenth place. These included a modified contract for Patrick Mahomes and new agreements for Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow. At $55 million a season, Burrow is the highest-paid quarterback in terms of average yearly worth.

With all the power at his disposal, Prescott can try to become the first quarterback in NFL history to earn $60 million annually. Additionally, Dallas discovered the first time it made a deal with Prescott that his agents are not afraid to drive a hard bargain.

The Cowboys’ Offseason Is Going to Be Pricey
COO Stephen Jones recently stated, “He’s under contract now, but we’d like to do this after the season.” After the season ends, we’ll concentrate on that. We’ll use Dak as our quarterback.

This offseason, pass rusher Micah Parsons and receiver CeeDee Lamb of the Cowboys will both be seeking contract extensions.

It’s a major factor in why Dallas should take advantage of this opportunity to make a Super Bowl run. It won’t be long until the Cowboys’ best players, especially their MVP-caliber quarterback, need to be backed up in the Brinks truck.
