The complex interplay between Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins has been one of the more significant developments for the Golden State Warriors this season.
Steve Kerr has usually attempted to keep the two players apart because they have much of the same talents and shortcomings, which limits the amount of minutes that each player can play.
Tim Kawakami of The Athletic broke down all of these options, including the growing likelihood of Wiggins being moved, in a recent post.
“Side note: Though I’ve said in the past that the Warriors might be reluctant to trade Wiggins so soon after he signed a relatively bargain-rate contract extension specifically so he could remain with this team, I’ve since heard that this would not be a major barrier for the Warriors to explore Wiggins’ trade market,” wrote Kawakami. “Especially if he can’t play with Kuminga and the Warriors decide that Kuminga is their full-time small forward.”
Naturally, this does not imply that Wiggins will be dealt, but it does appear that the prospect is now far more plausible than it has ever been since Wiggins was a Warriors All-Star.
This will undoubtedly be something to keep an eye on, particularly if the Warriors’ performance keeps getting worse. Golden State may still be able to make a trade by the deadline.
