Georgia Database Tykee Smith believes the Program Mentally Prepared Him For The NFL.

When Tykee Smith spoke with media at the NFL Scouting Combine, his confidence was evident. Smith, who at the start of his collegiate career at WVU was already developing into a quality player, described how being a part of the Georgia program helped him become ready for the NFL.

The Philadelphia, Pa. native detailed to Yardbarker’s Mike Asti why he feels Georgia prepared him mentally more than anything.

He even acknowledged that the Bulldogs had a role in shaping who he is now.

“They helped me be able to handle yourself like a young man and help me become the best version of myself.”

To succeed professionally, a defensive back must possess a specific physical build, but the NFL is also about the mental toughness of the players. Throughout his last three years at Georgia, Smith focused on developing his NFL skills by studying playbooks, reviewing film, planning plays against specific opponents, and handling the week-to-week grind of the season.

Smith also discussed his January Senior Bowl experience, where he won the MVP award for the American team.

“Being able to go out there and compete. And demonstrate my outstanding safety playing ability. In reference to the Senior Bowl and what he was able to demonstrate to scouts, Smith remarked, “I showed a little bit of that at Georgia.”

Smith concluded his collegiate career with a bang, despite Georgia’s inability to capture a third consecutive national championship this winter. In terms of statistics, the 2023 season was his best; he finished with 70 total tackles, four interceptions, and two pass deflections. Smith was at last well enough to showcase his genuine potential.
