Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel’s true thoughts on potential coaching changes after playoff heartbreak

Despite showing growth in his second season as head coach, Mike McDaniel, the Miami Dolphins were not successful in the postseason. With the Dolphins trying to overcome their postseason slump, McDaniel appears willing to switch up the coaching staff.

Throughout the 2023 season, McDaniel, who has an offensive background, was in charge of calling plays for Miami. However, McDaniel is willing to give it up if he believes it would improve the Dolphins as a team, according to David Furones of The Sun Sentinel.

McDaniel declared, “Nothing’s off the table, ever.” “I believe that this season we fell short of our expectations, so play-calling wouldn’t live outside of that.”

With an average of 401.3 yards per game going into the postseason, the Dolphins had the finest offensive unit in the NFL. Miami’s strength was in the throw game; they led the league with an average of 265.5 yards per game through the air, despite being sixth in rushing (135.8 YPG).

On Super Wild Card Weekend, though, their offense was unable to ignite against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Dolphins managed just seven points and 264 yards of total offense. Tua Tagovailoa completed 20 of 39 passes for 199 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, giving them 76 yards gained on the ground. Obviously, that wasn’t enough to overcome the Chiefs.

Miami is currently starting again and preparing for an offensive campaign in 2019. They are aware that their group is capable of contending for a postseason run. Mike McDaniel, though, isn’t afraid of change. It’s obvious that something needs to change, and McDaniel is amenable to anything that will elevate the Dolphins to the highest level.
