The Boston Bruins have summoned forward John Beecher from the minor leagues, according to the AHL Transaction logs. Beecher has been playing in the AHL since mid-January, participating in 17 games for the Providence Bruins and tallying eight points, evenly distributed between goals and assists.
At 22 years old, Beecher was a surprise addition to the Bruins’ training camp roster, earning a spot alongside fellow rookie Matthew Poitras. He made his NHL debut during Boston’s season opener, notching his first penalty and engaging in his first fight. Since then, Beecher has played in 39 NHL games, scoring five goals and seven points, while accumulating 15 penalty minutes, a modest decrease from his seven-minute debut.
Despite his struggles to find his scoring touch in the professional leagues, Beecher’s strengths lie elsewhere. He boasts an impressive 53.9% faceoff win rate as an NHL rookie and averages 2.23 hits per game.
This recall utilizes one of Boston’s four remaining roster recalls, restoring their roster to a full 23 players. Beecher is expected to provide depth as a forward, rotating alongside Justin Brazeau and Marc McLaughlin.
His return comes at a crucial time for the Bruins, who currently have forwards Pat Maroon, Milan Lucic, and Poitras sidelined on the injured reserve list.
