Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth talks about going into his last contract year.
Pat Freiermuth, a tight end with the Steelers and a second-round pick in 2021, is about to enter the last year of his rookie contract in 2024. He is aware that this season will be crucial to his chances of signing a second deal with Pittsburgh, where he intends to play for the remainder of the NFL. In an interview with “Around the 412,” Freiermuth declared, “I want to spend the rest of my career in Pittsburgh.” “I hope that’s how things work out. As a rookie, Freiermuth scored seven touchdowns and immediately won over fans. However, of late, he has had trouble staying on the field. Due to a hamstring injury that kept him out of five games last season, Freiermuth had his worst statistical season to date, with career lows in receiving yards (308), touchdowns (two), and catches (32). Given that he collaborated with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in his debut season, Freiermuth’s declining stats were probably caused by the Steelers’ poor quarterback performance. But since the team signed Russell Wilson in free agency and added Justin Fields through a trade with the Bears, that will not be an excuse this season.
Arthur Smith’s hiring by Pittsburgh as their new offensive coordinator should help position Freiermuth for success in 2024, as he has a history of using tight ends as the main component of his attack.
