Parramatta is ready to fight hard over Zac Lomax’s salary cap value as head coach Brad Arthur divides his time in trying to get a long-term deal for youngster Blaize Talagi, who was benched. After star halfback Mitchell Moses fractured his foot, the Eels have struggled to perform, therefore Arthur decided to start Daejarn Asi with Dylan Brown against North Queensland on Saturday night.
As Zac Lomax gets ready to leave the Dragons, Phil Gould thinks there’s a problem with his contract. This weekend, in the NSW Cup, Talagi will play at fullback again, replacing the fan favorite Maika Sivo on the wing in reserve grade. Talagi played center and five-eighth in his first three NRL games. One of the most talented juniors to pass through Parramatta’s ranks in a while, the 19-year-old has until the middle of this season to exercise his 2025 option.
In an effort to keep Talagi at Parramatta for the long run, the Eels are in negotiations with his management over a multi-year contract. On Tuesday night, Arthur referred to Talagi as “the future of this club.” NRL competitors are circling. Arthur said to this masthead, “Blaize will really benefit from his NRL experience, and he’s done a good job for us. However, as a team right now, we need a bit more experience alongside Dylan in the halves, and Daejarn has that.”
