During the NBA selection combine on Tuesday, former Illinois standout Terrence Shannon Jr. made his first public remarks prior to his June sexual assault trial. He stated that he is aware of the “serious” charges against him.
Depending on how his criminal rape and felony aggravated sexual assault trial on June 10 goes, the once-projected first-round pick may or may not be evaluated as an NBA prospect. At a Lawrence, Kansas, pub last year, a lady accused Shannon of putting his fingers through her sexually.
In December, as part of a school investigation, Illinois suspended Shannon, charged him, and ordered his arrest. Shannon, however, was given a temporary restraining order by a federal judge and was required to appear in court for the remainder of the season after missing six games. In April, the school ceased its probe.
“I’m looking forward to my day in court,” he replied. At Shannon’s preliminary hearing last week, a Kansas judge determined that there is enough probable cause for Shannon to face trial. A not guilty plea was made by Shannon at the hearing.
