BREAKING NEWS:Insider Names The Team To Watch For Mitch Marner Trade

The team to monitor for the Mitch Marner trade is named by an insider.

The team Mitch Marner will play for in 2024 has been one of the most talked about subjects of the NHL offseason. The 27-year-old forward has a $10.93 million cap charge and one year left on his Toronto Maple Leafs contract. Many have conjectured that the Leafs might try to trade for Marner and get something in return before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman made the suggestion that the Vegas Golden Knights might be a dark horse to acquire Marner in a trade during an appearance on “Leafs Morning Take” on Tuesday.

They obtained Jack Eichel, Tomas Hertl, Mark Stone, and Noah Hanifin, four of the best players on their current roster, through trades, so making a big wager to get a player of Marner’s caliber is just up their alley. A number of Vegas’ best prospects, draft selections, plus one or two quality roster players would probably be included in any trade for Marner. Any of the Golden Knights’ No. 2–5 prospects might be available, but they traded top prospect David Edstrom to San Jose in exchange for Hertl around the March trade deadline.

Shea Theodore, 28, who is arguably Vegas’ best defenseman, or Logan Thompson, 27, who is arguably the team’s best goaltender, along with one or two of Lukas Cormier, Brendan Brisson, Mathieu Cataford, 4, or Carl Lindbom, 5, plus Vegas’ 2024 first-round pick (No. 19 overall) and a second-round pick in 2025 or 2026, could start a trade discussion.

It’s also possible that the Maple Leafs decide against trading Marner and to extend his contract.
