Butland acknowledges the Rangers’ title loss hurt them “like a ton of bricks.”
Following Rangers’ 3-3 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday afternoon, Jack Butland reflected on his debut season in Scottish football and admitted that not winning the title had hit him and his teammates “like a ton of bricks.”
It is understandable why the players at the Ibrox club are currently feeling a little shellshocked, given that they have only won three of their previous eight decisive Premiership games and have enabled their closest rivals to catch up and pass them in the standings. However, Butland is still certain that they can get back up, destroy Celtic’s chances of winning the Scottish Cup this coming weekend at Hampden, and set the stage for a prosperous 2024–2025 season all at once.
The reason the former England goalkeeper has performed so well over the last ten months is that he is a superb football player with a great deal of experience. However, he has also prospered because he has acknowledged and welcomed the expectations placed on him to bring success and medals. The 31-year-old, who has received nine caps, is aware that there is no time to wallow in self-pity and is still hopeful of being included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Tuesday’s Euro 2024 finals in Germany.
