Conor McGregor’s UFC comeback has been dealt a cruel blow by Dana White, who has declined to provide a time for the former champion to return to the Octagon.
Although the fight’s date was not disclosed, it was confirmed in February that McGregor will face Michael Chandler in 2023 when he returns to action.
When questioned about the Irishman’s return on Wednesday, December 13, White remained evasive, despite the fact that the fight had been going on for ten months.
The UFC president stated in an interview with TNT Sports that the company would make two trips to Ireland in 2024, but he hinted that McGregor would not compete on either card.
“At the end of the day…,” the 54-year-old American continued. I always say this: Conor is incredibly affluent and has a wide range of choices in his life.
“When Conor gets that hunger back and really wants to come back and fight, it’s all up to him.
“If you look at what the guy has accomplished in such a short amount of time, the amount of money that he’s made, and the business opportunities that he’s taken outside of the Octagon, Conor can do whatever the hell Conor wants to do – and good for him.”
McGregor, 35, last fought in July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in his second straight loss to Dustin Poirier. Meanwhile, 37-year-old Chandler last fought in November 2022, losing to fellow American Poirier via submission.
Although McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, stated last month that the Irishman’s return is more likely to occur in the summer of 2024, there have been rumors that McGregor may compete at UFC 300 in April.
