Every offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies are frequently associated with the most well-known players available.
They have a strong desire to succeed and are not scared to spend money.
They have added some of the best players available in the last few cycles, including Nick Castellanos, Trea Turner, Zack Wheeler, and Bryce Harper, thanks to that formula.
The Phillies, who had signed Aaron Nola to a seven-year, $172 million contract, weren’t scared to spend big money to prevent him from leaving in free agency.
It appears that this will be their only activity during the off-season.
Dave Dombrowski, the president of baseball operations, has been transparent in his belief that there aren’t many roster gaps that need to be filled.
It appears that rather than investing more money in additions, he will be depending on their young players to advance in their careers.
“I believe that young blood has contributed to part of our change… Though in reality we are just playing the same team that was present in the final few months of the season—we didn’t win the entire thing—we are still rolling the same team back. Additionally, I believe there’s still a strong desire to win this,” he said to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki.
Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm became stars for Philadelphia last season after stepping up in the absence of Harper and performing at a high level. With the Phillies, Brandon Marsh has developed into a reliable outfield player after leaving the Los Angeles Angels.
Though it appears that those three will be playing for some time to come, there are some concerns regarding other young pieces.
Although Johan Rojas has demonstrated that he is a capable defender, his subpar postseason play has raised questions about his long-term viability at the plate.
Cristopher Sanchez has never thrown 100 innings in a season, but he is projected to be in the rotation and bullpen.
Although Orion Kerkering appears to be their closer of the future, there is an element of uncertainty given his quick rise in his first professional season, which saw him go from Single-A to their MLB roster.
Dombrowski is therefore placing his money on each of these players to keep developing professionally. If they want to help Philadelphia win the World Series, they will have to produce at a level that would require outside assistance.
