The Golden State Warriors’ biggest concern going into the season is Klay Thompson’s existing deal. As he enters the final year of his contract, Thompson is now making $43 million, and the parties cannot agree on a plan for the next year.
Klay Thompson hasn’t quite performed at the same level as he did before being hurt, to put it one way. Conversely, Thompson gets compensation because he contributed to the Warriors’ four NBA Championships. The Warriors risk handicapping themselves going forward if they choose the latter course of action.
Whatever the circumstances, Patrick Beverley thinks the Warriors should just pay Klay Thompson. Beverley made a passionate argument on the Pat Bev Pod’s most recent episode about why the Warriors should pay Klay Thompson.
Beverley asked, “Klay Thompson, why doesn’t he have an extension yet?” It’s not about what you’re doing right now; rather, it’s about what you did before getting to this place, so it’s acceptable. That man gave that company titles. They were en route to pick up another one, provided he didn’t screw up his knee. Two years ago, they had recently won a championship! We have so many titles that we are relocating to a another city.
Beverley believes that the Warriors should focus more on the human side of things rather than the commercial side. Take a look at the man who contributed to the current state of the franchise.
Beverley remarked, “It was splash brothers, not a splash brother.” “I get the commercial side of things, but don’t forget to include a tiny bit of humanity. You run your own company. Employees that put in a lot of effort and contribute significantly to the development of your company while they are there. You receive enormous wealth; do you look after your partner or do you let them go unattended?”
The Golden State Warriors find themselves in a very difficult position. Ultimately, the team must take all necessary measures to maintain Steph Curry’s happiness, and paying Klay Thompson will most likely do that.
