Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, made history on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers using his legs.
Jackson ran for an 8-yard gain after tucking the ball on the opening play of a third-quarter drive. With the rush, he reached 5,005 career rushing yards, solidifying his legacy in the NFL.
In just 82 career games, Jackson became the fastest quarterback in history to amass 5,000 yards. Russell Wilson in 175 games, Cam Newton in 129 games, and Michael Vick in 104 games were the next quickest quarterbacks.
After the three quarterbacks previously listed, the Ravens quarterback is currently ranked fourth all-time in career rushing yards by a quarterback. Vick has 6,109 career running yards, so it won’t be long until Jackson overtakes him as the NFL’s all-time leading rusher at quarterback.
Apart from his 5,005 rushing yards, Jackson’s career total includes 29 rushing touchdowns.
Jackson has been one of the most adaptable quarterbacks in the NFL since Baltimore selected him with the No. 32 overall choice in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was overwhelmingly chosen as the NFL MVP in 2019, his first complete season as a starting quarterback.
He completed 66.1% of his throws for 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns, and just six interceptions during that season. In addition, he went 13-2 as the starting quarterback and ran for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns. With 1,206 rushing yards in a single season, he became the NFL’s all-time leader in this category.
