By Zac Wassink | Added on August 13, 24 The San Francisco 49ers “have a deal on a potential trade” to send wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday afternoon. This is partly because the Steelers are “in a good place” with regard to signing Aiyuk to the kind of contract extension he has been wanting for months.

Prior to Rapoport’s revelation, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini clarified in the most recent episode of the “Scoop City” podcast that the Aiyuk saga might includeSpecifically, it was reported last week that individuals within the New England Patriots believed Aiyuk’s “preference” was to end up with Pittsburgh. That claim was shared before NFL analyst Herm Edwards, who is close with Aiyuk and 49ers general manager John Lynch, hinted that the 26-year-old and San Francisco still wanted to come to terms on an agreement that would keep the receiver with his current club.

In particular, it was revealed this week that several New England Patriots members thought Aiyuk’s “preference” was to play for Pittsburgh. Before Aiyuk and 49ers general manager John Lynch’s close friend Herm Edwards intimated that the 26-year-old and San Francisco were still hoping to reach an arrangement that would keep the receiver with his present team, that assertion was made.
