With one quarter of the regular season played, the Chicago Bulls have a 9–15 record. The team’s current trajectory is uncannily similar to that of the previous season, and it is not necessary to have a crystal ball to predict where this season will go.
Nevertheless, after the Bulls’ performances in the first twenty or more games of the season, CBS Sports has given them a dismal grade of D.
gloomy circumstances
The Bulls are headed where? How will the front desk handle this? The once-proud team has been beset by these questions ever since starting point guard Lonzo Ball suffered a knee injury in January 2022 and hasn’t been back.
The front office has had multiple opportunities to reset their roster, but they have persisted in resisting. What was the outcome? It’s among the league’s most dismal circumstances right now.
For CBS Sports, Jack Maloney wrote that the Bulls may be in the league’s most dismal scenario.
Referring to the team’s “Big 3” of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic, Maloney continued, “They’ve stubbornly forged ahead with this core that clearly isn’t good enough to make any noise in the Eastern Conference, and now they’re left with three expensive and aging stars who don’t appear to be all that valuable on the trade market.”
What comes next?
LaVine, who is still sidelined due to a foot injury, is apparently being shopped by the Bulls front office. Additionally, reports suggest that a contract extension has not yet been negotiated between the team and Deebo. The team is currently ranked in the bottom ten in the majority of offensive and defensive categories, including points per game (27th), pace (30th), and defensive rating (22nd).
Though it seems like the Bulls have cornered themselves, there is still hope for the team as they attempt to rebuild and take back their position in Chicago’s sports hierarchy.
“Even if they don’t receive much in return for players like DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic, there’s a good chance this roster looks much different by the end of the season, and that would be for the best long-term.” The front office will be debating its options for the next few months, which will be awkward, as Maloney wrote. This could happen before the trade deadline.
