After Igor Tudor quit owing to disagreements over transfer strategy, Lazio and Marco Baroni reached a two-year agreement. However, supporters have warned that “the biggest manifestation of dissent ever seen” will occur in the Eternal City.
After Maurizio Sarri left the team in March, claiming it was the only way to shuffle the roster and finish the season on a high note, the club has been in a state of mild disarray.
Under Tudor, they placed seventh, but the Croatian coach left this week, publicly expressing disapproval of President Claudio Lotito’s outlook for the team’s future.
Tudor “wanted to change eight players,” according to Lotito, who confirmed this to news agency ANSA, even though he thought the team was competitive.
Rather, the team met with former Verona manager Baroni today and reached an agreement on a two-year contract that will pay about €1.5 million a year.
Lazio supporters, who have long harbored animosity toward Lotito, were incensed by this revelation because they felt the President was too preoccupied with tightening his belt and would not make the necessary investments in a club with real ambition.

In a statement, the ultras of Curva Nord warned that they would not take Baroni’s appointment lightly.
“Lazio supporters will not put up with the club being diminished in any manner, motivated only by love for it! In a world of football where all teams assume accountability and strive for 360-degree development, Lazio is held captive by a strategy that serves only Claudio Lotito’s personal agenda.
“As champions of Our Lazio, we must take a stand and refuse to tolerate this cowardly attitude. We supporters need to voice our disapproval in a nonviolent way because we are sick of this regime.
“Finally, you will all be able to respond to the thousands of criticisms that have been flooding social media lately. You will all be able to voice your disapproval of this provincial government, which none of us deserve, by showing up.
